How to apply water based adhesive
Correct preparation of the timber surface and application of the adhesive is important to ensure the best performance from your project over the duration of its long-expected lifespan.
Preparation
Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, smooth, free of sharp edges, loose and foreign materials. Use a suitable cleaning medium to remove oil or grease stains and any other contaminants.
Application
Stir the adhesive thoroughly before and during use. Use only when temperatures will not fall below freezing at any time during a 24-hour period following the application of the EPDM.
Apply Elevate water based adhesive over plywood or OSB substrates with a solvent resistant roller, taking care to completely cover the substrate evenly to avoid globs and puddles of adhesive.
Use a 4” mini roller for detailed application and a 9” solvent resistant roller for the main area application. Permaroof stock a range of suitable rollers, especially selected for application of our roofing adhesives range.
The EPDM may be wet mated to the coated plywood or OSB by rolling the membrane in place over the substrate. To ensure proper adhesion, compress the bonded portion of the sheet to the substrate with a stiff broom or heavy roller, such as a linoleum roller.
Note that the quantity and type you need will vary according to your project dimensions and requirements. The Permaroof teams are experienced in EPDM roofing and are happy to advise. Call us on 01773 441 947 or use the free EPDM Kit Builder App to help.
