Features and benefits of Firestone Resista AK insulation:
Firestone Resista AK insulation board consists of a closed cell polyiso foam core (PIR) laminated on both sides to a gastight multi-layered aluminium complex. The PIR foam technology uses a HCFC-free blowing agent with a GWP (Global Warming Potential) of less than 5 and zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential).
Suitable for use on adhered, ballasted and mechanically fastened Firestone single-ply roofing systems , Resista AK delivers outstanding thermal resistance, dimensional stability and compressive strength. Using Firestone Resista insulation with EPDM membrane gives a complete flat roof solution with long lasting superior performance.

Installing Firestone Resista insulation boards
Preparation of the flat roof in advance of installation is vital to facilitate a successful application and offers the best opportunity to benefit from the superior lifespan of EPDM membrane. Ensure the substrate is free from debris and is clean and completely dry before installing the Resista insulation board.
Note: now is the time to make sure the roof deck is in a good condition with no defects that could affect the quality of the installation. If you are unsure, call in an experienced roofing professional, surveyor, architect or building regulations authority representative to inspect the roof and deck for irregularities. It is important for the longevity of the entire project that the roof and any timbers are in good condition.
The boards must be fixed using plates and fasteners or Firestone-approved insulation adhesives. Permaroof stocks a range of suitable fixings for Resista AK insulation boards. View our insulation fixings range here.
Fit the insulation boards neatly, ensuring all roof perimeters, penetrations and abutments are covered. It is advisable to install only the boards that can be covered with membrane before the end of the working day or in advance of predicted bad weather. Leaving boards exposed for prolonged periods or during inclement weather increases the risk of damage or failure.
Firestone Resista AK boards are clearly marked on one side with the instruction ‘This Side Down’. It is important to adhere to this instruction, particularly when working with a fully adhered membrane application method. Visit the Permaroof resource library to download your copy of the full installation guidelines.
There are three types of installation for single ply membrane systems. Use these minimum guidelines to determine the number of fixings to use for each board.
Mechanically fixed single-ply systems
When the membrane is mechanically fixed, the insulation boards should be fastened with a minimum of 4 approved fasteners and plates per 600mm x 1200mm board. Additional fixings may be needed around the roof perimeter or in locations that experience high wind loads. (Refer to your local wind uplift requirements or contact us to find out more).
Fully adhered single ply systems
When the insulation boards are installed and the membrane is applied using the fully adhered application method, the following minimum requirements are in place:
120mm thickness - min. 4 fasteners per 600mm x 1200mm board.
The final number of fasteners per board should be determined based on the wind uplift calculations and in accordance with your local building regulations.
Ballasted single ply systems
On ballasted single ply systems, the insulation boards may be loose laid unless mechanical attachment is specified within the regulations. Contact the local building regulatory authority for clarification if you are unsure.
