Kingspan TR27 is a rigid, fibre-free PIR core with both sides faced with coated glass tissue. These layers are bonded autohesively during the high tech, HCFC-free manufacturing process. This results in a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of zero and <5 Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP).

If you’ve decided to install Kingspan TR27 PIR insulation yourself, make sure you read the install considerations below during the planning stages. There may be some work to do on the roof deck and you’ll need to prepare the surface before installation can start. Preparing the flat roof in advance is an important step and can help achieve the best performance from your insulation. It can also afford the best opportunity to benefit from the superior lifespan of the EPDM membrane or P500 liquid roofing you use for waterproofing.
Note: ensure the base roof deck is in good condition and requires no repairs. If needed, strip back the old roof covering completely to allow for inspection. Check all timbers for signs of damage, especially if you’re replacing an old, damaged covering.
If you are unsure, don’t take any chances and call in an experienced roofing professional, surveyor, architect or buildings inspector to check the roof and deck for irregularities. It is important for the longevity of the entire project that the roof deck and any timbers are in good condition.
Ensure the substrate is free from debris and is clean and completely dry before installing the Kingspan insulation board. The boards must be fixed using plates and fasteners or approved insulation adhesives. PermaRoof stocks a range of suitable fixings for Kingspan insulation boards. [+] Thermal bridging
The heat loss caused by thermal bridging can lead to problems with condensation and the occurrence of mould within the roofing, particularly following a drop in surface temperature.
Thermal bridging can be reduced by minimising the interruptions within the insulating layer caused by materials with lower insulating properties than the boards. This can be done by detailing at the junctions and maintaining a continuance of insulation at key points for the best thermal performance.
[+] Vapour control
In new build roofing projects, Kingspan insulation boards should be installed over a separate vapour barrier, unless it is used with a sealed metal deck. It is advisable to carry out an independent condensation risk analysis for each project.
The type of vapour barrier required will depend on the method of fastening the boards. Contact the Permaroof teams if you need any help with your flat roof project.
[+] Waterproofing
Kingspan TR27 is ideal for use with:
[+] Load bearing and traffic
Kingspan TR27 100mm is suitable for light foot traffic areas, such as at access points to flat roofing. For heavier traffic areas, such as roof terraces or green roof walkways, it is advisable to install additional protection.
This is also a good idea if you plan to have furniture in place on the flat roof. Promenade tiles or decking placed on suitable paving supports and pedestals can provide a suitable top layer for Kingspan and EPDM and provide an attractive aesthetic finish.
Once correctly installed, Kingspan TR27 100mm insulation boards can last for many years. Lightweight, large panels can simplify installation, which can be suitable for a competent and skilled DIYer. The boards must be fixed using plates and fasteners or approved insulation adhesives. PermaRoof stocks a range of suitable fixings for Kingspan insulation boards.
