Expected Growth for Single Ply Roofing Membrane Systems

Single Ply roofing expected to grow

The Single Ply Roofing Association (SPRA) has predicted similar growth for the single ply roofing membrane systems that the rest of the construction industry is currently enjoying, after the release of the latest sales figures from their 12 current manufacturing members.

An estimated 5.4 million square metres of single ply membrane will be sold by the end of this year, which shows an expected rise of 7.3% on last years' figures. This equates to £73m in sales turnover and the SPRA expects the trend to continue.

Chief executive of SPRA, Mr James Talman said, "Our survey shows the outlook is positive for our industry with turnover anticipated at 7% year-on-year. And, with two-thirds of SPM business coming from the new build sector - and continued growth predicted in construction  - it's a great time to be involved in single ply roofing."

The SPRA research discovered that 46% of current single-ply membrane business is found in the commercial sector, with 22% in house building. These figures are expected to continue growing, particularly as two-thirds of single-ply membrane orders came from the new build sector.

Single-ply roofing membranes are growing in popularity in the housing sector and look set to replace felt roofing at some point in the future, with improved weathering properties and life-expectancy. As the industry searches for a solution to sustainable roofing, rubber roofing membrane, such as Firestone's EPDM RubberCover, for example, is demonstrating proven high performance technology across the roofing sector.

More and more consumers are looking at quality of products and services over price, indicating that there has never been a better time for a focus within the industry as a whole upon training and accreditation to ensure that the client receives high quality in both product and standards of installation.

Permaroof offer Firestone EPDM Training Days as a part of our long-term commitment to training and accreditation and have opened a brand new training centre in Alfreton, Derby. To find out more, please visit the training days page.
