Green Deal scheme receives boost

This week the Government have announced the welcome news that they are reopening the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund (GDHIF) with a further £100m investment.

GDHIF closed in June this year when uptake outweighed expectations and the £120m fund was quickly depleted.

Ed Davey made the announcement at the Lib Dem party conference in Glasgow and said, "Green Deal Home Improvement vouchers went like hot cakes earlier in the year and now even more people can cut their energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient."

Pressure was placed on the Government to relaunch the scheme, particularly by the National Insulation Association (NIA), who were outspoken on the subject. Welcoming the news, Neil Marshall, NIA chief executive said, "Following the significant reduction in insulation activity under ECO after cuts were announced by government in July and the closure of the initial GDHIF after just six weeks, we have been urging government to inject additional funding into the GDHIF this winter to help hard pressed households reduce their energy bills and stay warm. We are therefore delighted that Government has listened and responded by announcing an additional £100m today."

Further details will be released next month, including terms and conditions, rates and measures and applications are expected to begin in November.
