Firestone EPDM membranes for flat roofing projects are manufactured to the highest standards in the US and Permaroof UK Ltd is one of the largest licenced importers and distributors in Europe. Our teams are experienced and knowledgeable about EPDM and produce flat roof kits in both standard and custom-cut sizes for both trade and DIY customers.
Although Firestone EPDM membrane travels well, it is not uncommon for light creases to occur during transit and storage, particularly if the flat roof kit has been stored for some time before installation.
If this happens, there is a simple process to follow to reduce the creases before the roofing is applied.
EPDM membrane should always be allowed to ‘rest’ for 30 minutes before application as it is typically installed in a single sheet and should be flat.
What to do if your Firestone EPDM membrane is creased
If there are light creases in your membrane, once it is unpacked, giving it a ‘rest’ for 30 minutes is typically sufficient.
Lay out the creased membrane and smooth over a flat working surface.
Leave for half an hour to settle, and light creases will disappear.
For heavier creases, leave to rest as above for 30 mins. Then take a heat gun and gently heat the surface of the EPDM membrane and use a silicon roller to smooth out the heavier creases. Take great care during this stage not to scorch the membrane. Work quickly across the membrane, and do not rest in any one spot for too long. Apply gentle, constant pressure to the roller across the entire crease.
Only use a heat gun and not a naked flame.
This should be enough to remove even the deepest creases from the surface of the membrane. Allow to cool for 10 minutes, then apply as usual.
